Xavier is a 27-year-old Parisian. He has decided to complete his last year of studies in economic science in Barcelona. The previous year, an old friend of his father's had hinted at the possibility of a future post at the French Ministry of Finance. (But, for that, he would have to be fluent in Spanish, so...). On the day of his departure for Spain, Xavier's mother and his girlfriend, Martine, take him to the airport. He is clearly relieved to extricate himself from his mother's authority, but terribly sad to leave Martine. He arrives in Barcelona, searches for a place to live and finally finds a room in an apartment in the center of the city, shared by six (and, eventually, seven...) other people. Each of his co-tenants originates from a different European country. There's an Italian guy, an English girl, a boy from Denmark, a young woman from Belgium, a German guy and a Spanish (Andalusian) girl. They're pretty much all in the same boat: each is studying in Barcelona thanks to the European university exchange program (ERASMUS). We follow the life of this small European student community for a year.
