XAVIER DOLAN’S FIRST DRAMA SERIES THE NIGHT LOGAN WOKE UP
FOR CANAL+ CREATION ORIGINALE AND QUEBECOR CONTENT
STARTS FILMING IN MONTREAL.
STUDIOCANAL, Europe’s leader in production, distribution and international sales of TV series and feature films, announces that shooting has begun in Montreal for Xavier Dolan’s first drama series, The Night Logan Woke Up.
Multiple award-winning and globally recognized for his work as an actor, director, screenwriter and editor, Xavier Dolan will write, direct and produce the 5 x 60’ French language thriller, as well as appear in the role of Elliot.
Joining Dolan are original cast members from Michel Marc Bouchard’s 2019 psychological theatrical production, including Julie Le Breton (The Rocket, Les Beaux Malaises), Magalie Lépine-Blondeau (Boomerang, Laurence Anyways), Éric Bruneau (Heartbeats, Coroner), and Patrick Hivon (Mont Fosters, La Femme de mon Frère) and Julianne Côté (Tu Dors Nicole).
Additional cast of The Night Logan Woke Up include Djebril Zonga, star of Cannes Festival Jury Prize winner and four time César Award winner Les Misérables directed Ladj Ly; Pier-Gabriel Lajoie (Demain des Hommes), Jasmine Lemée (Mon Cirque à Moi), Elijah Patrice-Baudelot (Alerte Amber), Sylvie Drapeau (Borderline) and Sandrine Bisson (Ego Trip)
Nanoby’s Nancy Grant and Jasmyrh Lemoine produce along with Dolan. Javi Hernandez and Harry Grivakis of VVS Films who brokered the deals on behalf of the filmmakers serve as executive producers.
With delivery expected in 2022, STUDIOCANAL will distribute the premium drama internationally.
Dolan has been awarded the Jury Prize at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for Mommy and the Grand Prix at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for It’s Only the End of the World. He has also won several Canadian Screen and César Awards.
In the early 1990’s, Mimi and her brother Julian are best friends with Logan. Together, they form an inseparable trio. The boys are on the baseball team and just won the regional championship and Mimi dreams of a life in the theatre. Who knows what the future holds?
But in October 1991, their friendship is broken by a terrible incident and they’re forced to take separate roads. The two families are shattered. Nothing will ever be the same.
30 years later, Mimi has become a thanatologist and travels home to take care of her mother’s corpse, as requested by the latter in her will. She’s reunited with her estranged brothers, left behind decades back. Secrets and spite buried deep in the past soon resurface, sending them on an unstoppable pursuit of reconciliation.
