STUDIOCANAL is proud to present four titles from its catalogue during the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival: LA CITE DE LA PEUR and THE DOORS in the Cannes Classics section; MR KLEIN and RAMBO as part of tributes paid by the Festival to iconic actors. LA CITE DE LA PEUR (1994) by Alain Berbérian with Alain Chabat, Dominique Farrugia and Chantal Lauby

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the iconic comedy by the French trio of comedians Les Nuls, STUDIOCANAL produced a 4K restoration of LA CITE DE LA PEUR which will be presented in the Cannes Classics section during the festival. The film was scanned in 4K 16-bit resolution from the original 35mm negative on Lasergraphics director. The pre-grading was carried out in a cinema projection room equipped with a 4K Christie Laser projector by Pascal Bousquet and additional filtering and pallet work was done to remove dust and overcome the defects due to the age of the film. Optical effects were recomposed in DI on Flame in order to keep an original negative quality. Validation of the grading was done by the Director of Photography, Laurent Dailland. The original digital sound was used without modifications and the remastering work was done by the VDM Laboratory.

In France, LA CITE DE LA PEUR will be released in theaters in its restored version on June 5th, 2019 and a special 25th anniversary box is set to be released in November 2019.

THE DOORS (1991) by Oliver Stone with Val Kilmer, Kathleen Quinlan and Meg Ryan

STUDIOCANAL will also present at Cannes Classics, in a brand new 4K restored version, the incendiary and psychedelic musical biopic THE DOORS retracing the story of one of the most fascinating bands in the history of rock and the tumultuous life of its charismatic leader, Jim Morrison – a poet, rebel and genius whose music has shaped an era.

This restoration was initiated and supervised by Oliver Stone (Platoon, Wall Street) and will provide a new generation of viewers with the unique experience of a trip back to the 60s and an immersive soundtrack containing more than 25 titles from The Doors, thanks to the new Atmos mix created at Formosa Group (Hollywood) under the supervision of Dolby, and the sound engineers of the original version (Lon Bender and Wylie Stateman). The film was restored in 4K from the original negative, scanned in 4K 16 bits on Arriscan at EFILM US. The restoration was handled by L'Immagine Ritrovata in Italy. Grading work was closely monitored by Oliver Stone.

THE DOORS will be screened in Cannes at the Cinéma de la Plage and will be released in French theaters on June 26th, 2019, before the release of a 4K/Blu-ray steelbook on July 10th, 2019.

The theatrically-trained auteur of an imposing collection of cinematic and television work, brought to a halt by his premature death in 1982 at the age of just 37, Fassbinder was one of the most influential figures of the New German Cinema movement of the 1960s and 70s. His films served as a critique of certain aspects of German society, its class violence and the shadow cast by its Nazi past.
