Paul Grimault’s direction and Jacques Prévert’s poetic dialogue made this film a world-class masterpiece of animation, the influence of which has extended as far as Japan’s Ghibli studios. STUDIOCANAL is ensuring the tradition continues by restoring the film and also making sure it is viewed. Following its summer theatrical release (via Sophie Dulac Distribution), the studio is now offering the film in combined DVD + Blu-ray versions and a collector’s edition with exclusive content from October 15 in France. It has been available in Germany in DVD version since September 5 and in the UK since October 7.

King Charles V plus III makes VIII plus VIII makes XVI is the tyrannical ruler of the kingdom of Takicardia. He is in love with a humble shepherdess who we wants to marry. But she loves a chimney sweep, and he returns her love. Helped by a mocking bird that is nesting with its youngsters above the king’s private apartments, the lovers escape to the Lower City. The police track them down and an epic chase ensues.
